So, you think you know South Carolina, and want to earn some extra money?

The South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism (SCPRT) is looking for six people to write and blog about some of the great sights, sounds, tastes and activities that make South Carolina a great place to live and to visit – and they will compensate you! Please note there is a deadline of January 28, 2010 to enter.
They have designated six topic areas they want to explore on the DiscoverSouthCarolina Web site and you may be just the right person if you have a love of:

• Golf
• Family Travel
• Food
• Arts and Culture
• Outdoor
• Less Traveled (Off-the beaten path, history, heritage, small towns, hidden gems of South Carolina)

Each of PRT’s South Carolina Insiders will write stories, maintain a blog, appear in short videos and serve as an ambassador for South Carolina tourism. For at least a year, you will work with the tourism professionals at SCPRT to develop story and blog ideas and then go out and live those experiences first-hand. That could mean fishing for blue crab along the coast, hiking a beautiful mountain trail in the fall, or sampling some of the finest barbecue in the state. You get to tell the story.

SCPRT is now accepting applications for our South Carolina Insiders program. A couple of things to consider:

• You have to be extremely knowledgeable about the topic area for which you want to be an official South Carolina Insider.

• You must have access to a computer to write and file your stories and maintain your blog. Being technically savvy is helpful.

• You must be able to travel around the state and have your own transportation.

• You will be taking photographs and filing those electronically. SCPRT will supply you with a digital camera.

• You must be a full-time South Carolina resident.

• Oh, and by way, you will receive compensation for your efforts.

What PRT needs:

• Tell us about your background and experience in the Insider subject area you are interested in. (Think of this as your “explainer” or cover letter.) Throw in some biographical information. Be sure to include an email address, a telephone number and an address (BIO)

• A recent photo of yourself (PHOTO)

• We are also interested in seeing a short video (60 seconds or less) of you explaining why you think you would make a great South Carolina Insider (it’s not required) (VIDEO)

How to submit:
We’ve set up a special link for you to send us your explainer, bio, image and video.
Just make sure that you follow the naming protocol below so we can track your stuff:
(Last name)_(first initial)_(bio, video, photo)_(date of upload: year-month-day)

Example: smith_a_bio_20100117
smith_a_photo_20100117

Upload your files to the link below:

We will be selecting three (3) finalists in each category. If you make the cut and become a finalist, we will contact you. At that point, we may want to meet you in person, so don’t forget to include your contact information. From those three finalists in each category, one Insider will be chosen for each of the six subject areas. If you have any questions, those may be emailed to SCInsiderEditor@scprt.com.
Deadline: Jan. 28, 2010
